Approximately fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.
Officers say they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered many other marked cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report initial examinations show the fluid was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; investigators are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in association with the event," they stated.
City officials stated they were working "to solve the case" and have asked to the public for information.
An important representative commented the attack left him without words and had to be solved promptly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine people by a gunman aiming at residents of migrant background in 2020.
